Tara's Crossing, a new play by Emmy-nominated writer Jeffrey Solomon, recounts a transgendered asylum-seeker's remarkable flight from Guyana and her uphill battle to prove her claims of persecution from within the confines of U.S. Immigration Detention. The play is one of the first ever to deal with the subject of political asylum for sexual minority refugees and was inspired by interviews with asylum-seekers from around the world.
Tara's Crossing is a production of Houses on the Moon, Inc. (www.housesonthemoon.org) a
New York based theater company whose works have been presented Off-Broadway at the Lucille Lortel Theater, the Blue Heron, the City Theatre of Pittsburgh, the GLSEN National Conference, and at campuses and communities nationwide.
The cast includes Aundre' Chin, Emily Weiner, and Nysheva Starr with a very special appearance by Balmitra Vimal Pershaud, a Guyanese immigrant who was granted asylum in December of 2003 and whose experiences in part inspired Tara's Crossing.
